- Earn the latest VMware Certified Professional – Desktop and Mobility (VCP-DTM) certification
- Earn the latest VMware Certified Implementation Expert – Desktop and Mobility (VCIX-DTM) badge
- Have the latest VCDX-DTM application package approved and be invited to defend
- Successfully pass the latest VCDX-DTM defense
For existing VCDX-Desktop or VCDX-Desktop and Mobility candidates -
- Pass the latest VCAP-DTM Design exam
- For existing VCDXs in other tracks:
- Earn the latest VMware Certified Implementation Expert – Desktop and Mobility (VCIX-DTM) badge (for upgraded VCIX badges from a previous version, the VCAP-DTM Design is required)
- Have the VCDX-DTM application approved and be invited to defend
- Successfully pass a remote one-hour VCDX-DTM defense

The tracks are all individual, so to upgrade your VCDX, you will need to take the VCAP Design exam in that track. For example, if you are a VCDX-DTM, regardless of how many other VCDXs you hold, you will need to pass the VCAP7-DTM Design exam to upgrade to VCDX-DTM 202.
