Life in the UK Test or also called the British Citizenship Test, is one of the requirements that need to be fulfilled before becoming permanent residents (ILR-indefinite leave to remain status) of the UK or applying to be British Citizens. Life in the UK test is use to determine the applicants knowledge of the Life in the UK in order to assess whether they have assimilated in the culture of the country.  The test consists of Multiple Choice questions . 24 questions are asked to be answered in 45 minutes. Applicants need to answer 18 questions correctly in order to score a pass or 75%

The questions are asked from the “Life in the UK: A Guide for New Residents (3rd Edition)” handbook that is officially used to test applicants on the topics of the book. You should download and fill the refund form from https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/application-for-refund-for-a-life-in-the-uk-test if you wish to get a refund/complaint. You’ll get a response within 10 working days. All complaints must be submitted within 3 months of the test date.

In order to meet the 'Knowledge of language and life in the UK' requirement for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)/settlement you must: pass the Life in the UK test, unless in very few cases, you are exempt.
You will need to contact the Home Office on 03001 232 253 about your lost pass certificates. You will NOT be able to get a copy of the Life in the UK test certificate from your test centre. According to Home Office guidelines, You will be able to use a cover letter, to inform the Home Office that you have lost or misplaced your certificates.

If you mix up your first and last names, you may not be able to sit the test or get the money back. •You have to register with the Life in the UK online booking service •You need to do this atleast 3 days before taking the test •You need to provide a valid proof of identity, a debit or a credit card to make the payment and an email address for confirmation and registration of account.
£50 ( Fifty Pounds only ) The Life in the UK test or the British citizenship test costs £50 ( Fifty Pounds in British Money). The fee for the test needs to be paid prior to taking the test and at the time of booking for the test. The fees includes one time attempt of the test, and if for some reason you fail, you will have to pay the same money i.e. £50 pounds to reappear for the test.
The test can be booked on the official booking site i.e. https://www.lituktestbooking.co.uk/lituk-web/ You are asked to choose a preferred test centre close to your location. There is no difference in the difficulty levels of test , based on centers. All centres administer the same test.
75% According to the UK Visas and Migration Department of the Home Office that regularly releases pass scores , the pass rate is approximately 75% , which means that every 1 in 4 people fail the exam. You have to answer 18 out of 24 questions correctly to pass the Life in the UK test. You have 45 minutes to take the test.
There are over 60 centres all across UK where Life in the UK test is conducted. Once you begin the process of booking for your test online, you will be given choices of centres close to you along with the available time slots to take exams at these locations.

Every body who is applying for ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) or British Citizenship is required to take this test. It is mandatory in the age group of 18 years to 64 years. You don’t need to take the test if: • You're under 18 or over 65 • Unable to, because of special circumstances (such as a long-term physical or mental condition; you will need to provide necessary proof) You only need to pass the test once – you don't need to pass the test again if you're applying to become a British citizen and previously passed the life in the UK test as part of your settlement (ILR) application.
