Certified Professional Coder (CPC) exam has been designed for attaining CPC certification for healthcare as the gold standard for physician-based medical coding. CPC exam is a test of medical coding proficiency consisting of 150 multiple-choice questions that assess 17 areas of knowledge. This program, designed by the creators of the CPC exam, will ensure to receive an effective and comprehensive education covering proper use of all medical code sets you will encounter on the exam. In order to complete the course successfully following must be fulfilled -
- Attempt of all required assignments
- Passing score of 70% or higher on all chapter exams
- Passing score of 70% or higher on the final exam
- Overall final course score of 70% or higher
Who Should Take the CPC Exam?
Candidate who have trained with AAPC to become a medical coder having substantial medical coding experience with the opportunity to gain certification by registering for the CPC test. Passing CPC exam elevates earning potential by greater than $20,000 above annual salaries for persons without AAPC's medical coding certification.
Prerequisites for taking Certified Professional Coder CPC®Exam
It is strongly recommended to have knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy (or AAPC courses). Also if you do not have 2 years of work experience before taking the CPC exam, you will receive a CPC-A credential after passing. The “A” stands for apprentice. Once you submit proof of 2 years of coding work experience, you can have the apprentice status removed from your credential. The Career Step program satisfies one of the two years required.
