Certified Coding Associate (CCA®)


CCA is a professional designation offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) for health information technicians specializing in medical coding.


Who should take the exam?

To be eligible for the CCA exam, you need to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Six months of coding experience, completion of an AHIMA-approved coding program or completion of a similar coding program is recommended but not required.

Certified Coding Associate (CCA®) FAQs

The CCA coding credential, offered by AHIMA, demonstrates coding competency in any setting, including hospitals and physician practices.
The questions of the CCA exam are available in the form of multiple choice.
To be eligible for the CCA exam, you need to have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Six months of coding experience, completion of an AHIMA-approved coding program or completion of a similar coding program is recommended but not required.
The candidate should get at least 300 marks (on the scale of 100-400) in order to pass the exam.
The candidate will be given a period of 2 hours i.e. 120 minutes to complete their exam.
There are 100 questions in total in the exam.
