Data Connection using Connectors

  2. Data Connection using Connectors

We can add a data connection to an existing canvas app or to an app that you may be starting from scratch, in Power Apps. Also, the app can connect to SharePoint, Microsoft Dataverse, Salesforce, OneDrive, and many other data sources. As a prerequisite, you are required to Sign up for Power Apps, and then sign in by providing the same credentials that were used to sign up. We will now elaborate some of the steps to perform the data connection.

Open a Blank App

  • Firstly, on the Home tab, select Canvas app from blank.
  • Secondly, specify a name for your app, and then select Create.
  • Then, if the Welcome to Power Apps Studio dialog box appears, select Skip.

Steps for Adding Data Source

  1. Firstly, in the centre pane, select Connect to data to open the Data pane. But if this were an existing app and the screen already contained a control, select View > Data sources to open the same pane.
  2. Secondly, select the Add data source.
  3. Then, if the list of connections includes the one that you want, select it to add it to the app. Else, skip to the next step.
  4. Next, Select New connection to display a list of connections.
  5. Thereafter, in the search bar, type or paste the first few letters of the connection you want, and then select the connection when it appears.
  6. Lastly, Select Create to both create the connection and add it to your app.

About Connectors

  • There are some connectors, like Office 365 Outlook, that require no additional steps, and we can show data from them immediately.
  • Then, other connectors prompt you to provide credentials, specify a particular set of data, or perform other steps.

Steps to Identify/Change a Data Source

In order to update an app, we are required for identifying or change the source of data that appears in a gallery, a form, or another control. Following are the steps to identify or change a data source –

  • Firstly, select the control, like a gallery, for which you want to identify or change the data source. Then the name of the data source appears on the Properties tab of the right-hand pane.
  • Secondly, for displaying more information about the data source or to change it, select the down arrow next to its name. Thereafter, more information about the current data source appears, and you can select or create another source.
