COBIT suggests a holistic implementation of the governance system It should be end-to-end for both business and IT functional areas.

A common cause of failure of governance system implementation is non-initiation and mismanagement for benefit realization. The executive management. should sponsor the implementation of the COBIT governance.

Implementation Approach

Common reasons for failure of governance system implementations, are

  • Improper management
  • Not realizing the benefits

The executive management should sponsor the governance programs. The programs should have proper scope and attainable objectives. Addressing of changes becomes easier.

Further, the implementation approach should make the stakeholders (both IT and business) take  ownership. The implementation is completed after measurable benefits are realized and the implemented governance is embedded into the ongoing business activity.
