Business units are the main blocks to group or design for the Marketing cloud. It can be on the organizational structure or geographical basis.

Marketing Cloud has tenant types as per account (has unique ID or MID), which are

  • Core – single account, , has 1 MID
  • Enterprise 2.0  – top-level account having all associated BUs (business units), has multiple MIDs
  • Enterprise 1.0 – top-level account having associated On-Your-Behalf or Lock & Publish BUs (business units), has multiple MIDs
  • Agency – top-level account and associated client account

Account Setup

  • Setup IP Allowlist
  • Add company settings like address, contact,etc
  • Configure Headers and Footers of emails
  • configure  Security Settings like Session Timeout, minimum Username / Password Length, etc
  • Add BUs (Business units) as per need like each brand has a BU
  • Map users and roles to BU as per their need

BUs (Business units)

  • In enterprise 2.0
  • As per need like each brand has a BU or as per organizational structure
  • Can have its own time zone and date format
  • Users in a BU, access all items created in it
  • Share item with other Bus by shared folder
  • Can import Bus / users by mass administration

Marketing Cloud Roles

  • Marketing Cloud Administrator – Assigns roles to users, manage channels, apps, and tools, does not apply to Email Studio.
  • The Marketing Cloud Viewer  – only view cross-channel marketing activity
  • Marketing Cloud Channel Manager – creation and performing cross-channel marketing campaigns, develop / monitor cloud journeys and reports.
  • The Marketing Cloud Security Administrator – manage security settings, user activity and alerts Marketing Cloud Content Editor/Publisher – develop and send messages or cloud journeys but not reports.

Permissions

  • Administrator – has all permissions
  • Analyst – has all tracking permissions
  • Content Creator – has all content permissions
  • Distributed Sending User – has all Subscribers permissions
  • Marketing Cloud Administrator, Marketing Cloud Channel Manager, Marketing Cloud Security Administrator and Marketing Cloud Viewer – has all General permissions
