Types of migrations Google Professional Data Engineer GCP
There are three major types of migrations:
Lift and shift:
- Move workloads to a target environment with little or no modifications.
 - Minimum changes needed are applied to operate in target cloud environment.
 - Suitable if environment and workloads are similar or little or no business need for change.
 - It requires the least time and is the quickest migration
 
Improve and move:
- It involves changing the workloads or operation to benefit from cloud-native capability
 - Improvement in performance/ features/ cost/ user experience is realized
 - Suitable if a major update was to be done on the workload
 
Rip and replace:
- Complete redesign and development of existing workload or operation is done
 - Suitable if existing is not to be maintained or change in requirements or no support in GCP
