Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs) will help candidates to have unique skills in preventing and detecting fraud. This will provide high value in organizations spanning all industries, sectors and sizes. 


Requirements for the exam

  • Candidates for CFE certification must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent from an institution of higher education. They should have two years of professional experience related to fraud can be substituted for each year of college.
  • They must have at least two years of professional experience in a field either directly or indirectly related to the detection or deterrence of fraud at the time of certification. 


The ACFE recognizes the following areas as qualified professional experience - 

  • Accounting and auditing
  • Criminology and sociology (sociology is acceptable only if it relates to fraud.)
  • Fraud investigation
  • Loss prevention (experience as a security guard or equivalent is not acceptable)
  • Law relating to fraud
  • Other experience can qualify, but must be reviewed for applicability.

Before applying for CFE, you must meet the following requirements: • Be an Associate member of the ACFE in good standing • Meet minimum academic and professional requirements • Be of high moral character • Agree to abide by the bylaws and Code of Professional Ethics of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
To maintain the CFEs the candidate must obtain a minimum of 20 hours of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) every 12-month period and pay annual membership dues to stay current in their professions.
If you studied using the CFE Exam Prep Course and do not pass then, you may qualify for the Money-Back Pass Guarantee. If you qualify for the Money-Back Pass Guarantee then you will receive a Retake Exam Key with your results. If you do not qualify for the Money-Back Pass Guarantee or have studied without the CFE Exam Prep Course and do not pass then, you may retake the CFE Exam for $100 per section. The exam result will be sent via email, within 3-5 business days once all four sections have been completed. To pass, you must accurately answer at least 75% of the questions in each section of the CFE Exam. CFE Exam scores are only released when you have not achieved the 75% pass rate.
Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) exam is a computer-based program that you can take at any time. There are no testing centers and do not have designated times when we administer the CFE Exam. To be eligible to take the CFE Exam, you will need to be a current member of the ACFE and have an approved CFE Exam Application on file.
This includes system requirements: • Windows 7 (Service Pack 1), Windows 8.1, Windows 10, Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) • Screen resolution of 1280x1024 or greater • High-speed Internet connection (minimum 2Mbps upload/2Mbps download) • Ability to download web browser extension • Web camera • Microphone And, browser requirements: • Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (latest version recommended) • Browser must be set to allow JavaScript, cookies, pop-ups, web camera access, and microphone access.
This exam will cost $400 USD.

To pass the exam you have to score 75%.
In this exam there will be 500 questions divided into four sections. And, each question has a time limit of 75 seconds, and each section contains 125 questions.
